RULES & FORMAT – KID GATHERING – COSMIC CLASH 2025 (ENGLISH)

IMPORTANT NOTES

Weigh-ins will be conducted at the entrance area.
Kids who do not make their registered weight may be moved to another bracket, depending on the situation and their level.

Brackets will be organized in the following order:

Age → Weight → Experience (belt & training time) → Gender

As this is a friendly event with the participation of 8 teams, in some cases the organizers may match kids of different ages but in the same weight class, as long as it stays within safe and reasonable limits.

1. MATCH DURATION

Match time by age group:

  • 4–6 years old: 2-minute rounds

  • 7–9 years old: 3-minute rounds

  • 10–15 years old: 4-minute rounds

  • The match may end early if:

    • There is a submission, or the referee stops the match for safety reasons.

🛡️ KIDS SAFETY REGULATIONS

Even though the organizers always try to minimize disqualifications, illegal techniques such as direct attacks to the neck (for example, front choke or rear naked choke) will follow this protocol:

  • First offense: Verbal warning

  • Second offense: Point deduction and notification to the coach

  • Third offense: Disqualification

JOINT LOCK SAFETY

CHOKE SAFETY

Armbar
If the child’s arm becomes fully straight over the hips, no matter the angle, the referee will stop the match immediately.

Kimura
If the arm is rotated beyond a safe range, especially when the elbow goes over the hip line, the referee will immediately stop the match.

Americana
The referee will closely observe the child’s reaction.
If the hips start lifting or the shoulder shows signs of pressure, the match will be stopped to ensure safety.

Rear Naked Choke (RNC)
If the referee identifies that the choking arm is under the chin and the choke is clearly sinking in, the referee will prioritize the child’s safety and stop the match immediately, even if the child has not yet tapped.

Bow & Arrow Choke
The referee may stop the match early in the following situations:

  • The lapel is under the chin and the attacker is in a very good position to finish the choke.

  • The lapel is pulled across the chin (pressing hard on the jaw), causing pain or creating a risk of injury.

Triangle → Omoplata Transition
Omoplata is a banned technique. However, during a Triangle escape, this position may appear unintentionally and will be handled as follows:

  • If the child places their head on the floor while escaping → Stop and reset to Closed Guard.

  • If the child stands up to pull the arm out → Stop and reset to Open Guard.

3. POINT SYSTEM

Points are awarded only if the position is controlled for at least 3 seconds:

  • Takedown: 2 points

  • Sweep (reversing from bottom to top): 2 points

  • Knee on belly: 2 points

  • Guard pass: 3 points

  • Mount (sitting on the opponent’s torso): 4 points

  • Back control (with both hooks in): 4 points

4. HOW MATCHES ARE DECIDED

  • Submission: The match ends immediately if one athlete taps or the referee stops the match for safety.

  • Points: If there is no submission, the athlete with more points wins.

  • Referee decision: If the score is tied, the referee will decide based on:

    • Level of control

    • Initiative and aggressiveness

    • Overall dominance

  • Disqualification (DQ): For serious fouls or violations of the rules above.

5. BRACKET FORMAT – BASED ON NUMBER OF ATHLETES

🔹 4-person bracket

  • The matches are organized in a single-elimination style.

  • There will be:

    • 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze medalists.

  • The 2 athletes who do not reach the final will have an additional match so that:

    • Each child gets to compete at least 2 matches.

🔹 3-person bracket

Matches follow a double elimination format.

  • If an athlete wins 2 matches in a row → they receive the Gold medal.

  • If an athlete loses the first match, they still have a chance to compete again in another match to fight for a medal.

🥇 DOUBLE GOLD ROUND

After all brackets are completed, all Gold medalists will be invited to join a special round:

“Gold vs Gold” to choose the most outstanding athlete – the winner will receive an Additional Honorary Gold Medal.

📌 Note: Some small brackets may not have enough athletes to organize this round.

6. KIDS BRACKET FORMAT

General priority when building brackets:
Age → Weight → Experience (belt & training time)

1. Age rules

  • Ages 5–6

    • Kids are matched only with the same age.

    • 5-year-olds vs 5-year-olds.

    • 6-year-olds vs 6-year-olds.

  • Ages 7 and above

    • A 1-year age difference is acceptable when needed.

    • Example: 7 vs 8, 8 vs 9, 10 vs 11, etc.

2. Weight rules

  • Ages 7–9

    • Similar weight is the top priority.

    • We try to keep kids in the same bracket with only small weight differences and avoid big mismatches.

  • Ages 10–13

    • Brackets are formed by weight and belt level whenever possible.

    • If there is no opponent with the same belt level:

      • The lower-belt athlete may be placed in a slightly lighter weight class to face a more experienced (higher-belt) athlete.

      • This is to keep the match as fair as possible.

    • The maximum allowed weight difference is 5 kg.

7. MAT ETIQUETTE

  • Respect the coaches, your partners and the organizers.

  • Do not shout, tease or provoke others, whether you are winning or not.

  • Do not intentionally run away from or avoid engaging with your partner.

  • If you feel uncomfortable or in danger, Tap (ask to stop) to keep yourself safe.

  • The referee may stop the match at any time if they see you are not okay, even if you have not tapped.
